Soul Fighter Thunder by mayorlight Soul Fighter Thunder by mayorlight
My entry for :iconsaintfighteraqua:'s current contest ( saintfighteraqua.deviantart.co… )

Inks: mayorlight.deviantart.com/art/…

I wasn't quite able to achieve that Art Nouveau effect with the lines and the background (implied to be the entrance to a desert temple). I was originally going to color this with traditional media, but then decided to use Photoshop - which made for some good practice.

I like that even though it's digital coloring, it still has the ink line shading.

At first, I had mixed feelings about that look, but then I realized it sort of gave it an old-fashioned comic book look.

Nice work! The colors (the green and tan) are a really striking contrast. The straight lines of the background contrast nicely with his sense of action.

Thanks. I'm glad that my tan selection worked out well (I originally tried a color closer to his hair, but too much red was hard on the eyes). I hadn't even thought about how the lack of curves in the background helped give a more dynamic feel to the character.

NICE!!!!  Love the shades of greens you used for his outfit.  Makes him really stand out from the background.:happybounce:

Thanks. I was rather pleased with how the overall green and brown color scheme turned out.

This looks awesome and I have to say, you did really well in photoshop!
The details are good and stand out well, I like the sheen you put on the blade and bands...the bands especially look reflective!
(I wonder which djinn he is summoning?)
This has a very middle eastern feel, which suits the whole Djinn thing very well. (The sword is called Solomon, you might get the reference).
Thank you so much for entering. You know I've always enjoyed your art and it makes me happy to get more art of my characters from you. I also liked it on Facebook. I'm happy you posted it there too!!

Thanks Darrell - it's always a pleasure.

Oh yes, I definitely get that reference to Solomon. :)

Glad that I could achieve that Middle Eastern feel with the color scheme.
